ABWA Official Website – The book “Hijab and its Role in Mental Health” by Abbas Rajabi was translated and published in Italian by AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly in cooperation with Imam Ali (a.s.) Islamic Center of Milan.
This book is a theoretical and field research to study the relationship between hijab and the mental health of women and girls.
The author’s main goal in writing this book is to show the effectiveness of one of the rules of Islam, that is, the necessity of veiling for women in front of the Mahram, and the necessity of limiting sexual relations and pleasures to the family environment to ensure the mental health of women, and to reduce their anxiety and depression.
In the first chapter, the history of hijab in different periods and governments of Iran, before Islam and after Islam, as well as other religions have been discussed. In the second chapter, the issue of the Fitrah (innateness) of the hijab and the instinct of women to display and show off has been explained. In the third and fourth chapters, which are the main part of the book, the relationship between hijab and women's mental health, and what mental health and anxiety are, have been researched.
In the final chapter of the book, the results of the author’s field research are presented. In this chapter, the effect of various variables, such as religious attitude and level of education of women, university education of parents, working mothers, place of residence, and familiarity with the Islamic rules on the attitude of different groups of society towards veiling, and the analysis of its feedback on reducing women’s anxiety is also provided.
