Expressing a memory of his speech in France about Imam Khomeini (r.a.), the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly said, “After a speech at a meeting of about 400 people in France, some attendees told me that Imam Khomeini was not just for Iranians. Rather, he was God’s reserve for all world people in the present age, and all world nations love him.”

Imam Khomeini, God’s reserve for our time/World nations love Imam: Ayatollah Ramazani

A conference entitled “The Ethical Thought of Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader of the Revolution” was held at AhlulBayt (a.s.) International University with the participation of foreign guests, professors, and intellectuals. The special guests of the event were PhD students of Misbahudduja University of Pakistan.

Universality of Imam Khomeini’s character

Delivering a speech at the conference, Ayatollah Ramazani Gilani, Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly and the representative of the people of Gilan in the Assembly of Leadership Experts, argued, “The character of Imam Khomeini (r.a.) should be studied from different dimensions. One of these dimensions is the universality of his character. For example, the character of the Imam can be studied as a mystic whose view of cosmos is based on experience and intuition. On the other hand, because Imam Khomeini (r.a.) was wiseman, he had a wise and philosophical view of the world, man, and the Creator, and philosophically, this view gives a holistic view of human beings. Also, the Imam’s character can be studied as a scholar who had monotheistic and mystical ethic.”

He continued, “From another perspective, Imam Khomeini (r.a.) as a Faqih and a comprehensive Marja, due to his knowledge of human, Islamic and Shiite society, he could explain the Fiqh of life and Fiqh of governance. Also, Imam’s character, as a litterateur and belletrist person of mystical poetry, is worth examining. His character as a religious politician can also be examined. Regarding the late Imam Khomeini (r.a.), Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said that he did not express a higher opinion than Ayatollah Modarres. In fact, Imam Khomeini believed that “Our religion is our policy, and our policy is our religion; Our path and truth is our policy, and our policy is our path and truth”. This is a profound saying, and from this perspective the character of late Imam can be examined too.”

Imam educated the society with his conduct

The representative of the people of Gilan province in the Assembly of Leadership Experts continued, “In this conference, I want to examine the Imam Khomeini’s school from an ethical perspective. I will also address Imam Khamenei’s school. The importance of morality is so high that the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) said about it, “I was sent to perfect the moral virtues,” and it is so important that even the Prophet should have good morals. That’s why God Almighty admires the morality of the Prophet. If morality is manifested in our behavior and actions, it will definitely be influential on the behavior of society. If the leader of a society is morally oriented, morality will be seen in different aspects of society. Similarly, if the leader is wise, wisdom and understanding will be seen in society. The late Imam Khomeini (r.a.) educated the society with such goals.”

“One of the factors that caused the society to grow in the 23 years of the prophethood of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) was his behavior and morals. He respected everyone. At that time, those who had previously lived in the culture of Jahiliyyah (The age of ignorance in Arabian Peninsula before the advent of Islam), became acquainted with fidelity, love, and self-sacrifice, and a moral transformation took place in the society of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h), and the society progressed towards Tawhid (monotheism),” Ayatollah Ramazani said.

The most perilous behavior in politics and the media

Explaining the three types of ethics, he said, “Platonic and Aristotelian ethics are based on the four pillars of wisdom, courage, chastity and justice. The ethics of Christianity has been based in the same direction and on the same four pillars. Then, the three principles of hope, faith and charity were added to it. Against these principles, there are 7 moral vices of arrogance, greed, lust, jealousy, gluttony, anger and idleness, which are the basis of all vices. Contrary to what has been said, an ethic is used today in politics, power, and wealth, which is Machiavellian ethics. The followers of Machiavellianism are not faithful to any morality. In other words, their morality is in immorality and non-adherence to value principles. In politics Machiavellians consider the king and the prince to be above the law and free from all restraints. According to them, to maintain power, the king can do anything and use any means. They do not adhere to any moral principles in the media either. Machiavellian ethics allows the use of any means to achieve power and wealth. This is the most perilous kind of ethics in economics, politics and the media.”

The Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly stated, “The morality on which Imam Khomeini (r.a.) set his life was in accordance with the Fitrah (divine nature of man) and innate tendencies of human beings. Virtue, truthfulness, fidelity, and service to the people are among the innate inclinations of man. All moral virtues are embedded in human Fitrah that must flourish, and in this case, man will reach perfection, and such a human being can cause the formation of a moral society. According to Imam Khomeini (r.a.), a moral act is performed on the basis of Fitrah. Of course, he believes that all beliefs are based on Fitrah. In other words, theism and godliness are based on Fitrah because religion is based on Fitrah. An example of this is that if a person gets into an extremely difficult situation, he only heeds to a single truth, which is the One God.”

From Imam Khomeini’s Perspective, all morals, actions and beliefs are based on Fitrah

Ayatollah Ramazani stated, “On the subject of Resurrection, Imam Khomeini (r.a.) believed that the man’s return and destiny are also based on his eternal nature, and since he has an eternal soul, he wants to reach eternity. Therefore, according to Imam Khomeini, both morality and beliefs are in accordance with Fitrah. Most prominently, human actions are based on Fitrah. All deeds, including prayer, fasting, Hajj and Zakat, are based on the authentic needs of man. Also, the late Imam Khomeini (r.a.) believed that hell and heaven each are composed of three parts: Heaven of deeds, heaven of morals, and heaven of beliefs; and in the same way, hell of deeds, hell of morals, and hell of beliefs. Therefore, according to the Imam (r.a.), the beliefs, ethics and deeds in religion are in accordance with Fitrah, and the fact that “religion conforms to nature” means that all religious teachings are in accordance with human Fitrah. Also, from a social point of view, confronting the oppressor is in accordance with human Fitrah, and accepting oppression is against Fitrah.”

Imam Khomeini (r.a.) was God’s reserve for our age

Ayatollah Ramazani continued, “Imam Khomeini’s teachings are not only for Iranians, but for humanity. If human society accepts the invitation of Imam Khomeini (r.a.), they will achieve moral and human development. Not only did he bring greatness for the Iranians, but he was God’s reserve for all the oppressed of our age. Imam Khomeini’s great miracle was awakening, responsibility, trustworthiness, as well as confronting tyrants, and reviving Muslims’ confidence. In all his leadership years, Imam Khamenei has also followed the same principle, and has based his political ethics on dignity and confrontation with tyrants.”

“For its comprehensive development in the future, human society must heed the seven recommendations of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution in the Statement of the Second Phase of the Islamic Revolution, which emphasize the scientific progress, the study of ethics and spirituality, establishing justice, and fighting against corruption,” he continued.

Ayatollah Ramazani stated, “Imam Khomeini (r.a.) has an important saying on paying attention to all aspects of human life, which is “rising for God”, and that “everyone must rise up for God, individually and collectively”. Man’s individual uprising is to achieve monotheistic morality and divine knowledge. There must also be the collective uprising for God’s commands and whatever is pleasing to Him, which is justice that has been the desire of all the divine prophets. In order to achieve justice, everyone must strive.”

Imam Khomeini’s ummah was all Muslims of the world

“Imam Khomeini (r.a.) perfected that great change and Revolution, and invited everyone to rise up for God to reach a permanent status and achieve true greatness,” he added.

Rather, he was God’s reserve for all world people in the present age, and all world nations love him. One of the nations that loves Imam Khomeini (r.a.) very much, and consider him as their source of emulation, are people of Pakistan, who have learned the way of political life from the late Imam. As Martyr Motahhari once said, the Imam’s ummah was not only Iranians, but all Muslims. Imam Khomeini (r.a.) believed in his purpose, path, and ummah, and devoted himself to the ummah of Islam. Without Imam Khomeini (r.a.), the Islamic Revolution of Iran is not known anywhere in the world. Imam Khamenei also always draws our attention to this fact.”
