The Secretary General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly stated, “Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani strongly believed in the principle of Islam in the Islamic Republic, and he also believed in the efficiency of the Islamic Republic with the Fiqh of AhlulBayt (a.s.).

ABWA Official Website – The 1st “Servicing Jurist” Conference was held at the Baqir al-Olum University with the speech of Ayatollah Ramazani, Secretary General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

About the character of Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani, Ayatollah Reza Ramazani said, “He was truly a religious, politician, and revolutionary Marja. Therefore, specialized forums and meetings should be held in different sections to exchange opinions on the jurisprudential and theological views of Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani.”

“At the beginning of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani was a member of the Guardian Council for 9 years and was the secretary of this institution for 8 years,” Ayatollah Ramazani added, “As a servant in one of the sensitive positions of the Islamic Republic, he played a role with his scientific comprehensiveness. If we master the set of negotiations and reports of the Guardian Council, we will understand the meticulous views of Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani.”

“The government of the Islamic Republic is established with the three pillars of Islam, leadership, and people. Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani believed that Islam has the capability of planning for religious governance based on Sharia in its special sense, that is, Ahkam (rulings). In this regard, there are two minimal and maximal views towards religion, and Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani is one of the supporters of a maximalist approach to religion,” he added.

While stating that Grand Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani had a firm and strong character, he continued, “We should have a maximum view of religion and its effectiveness. Because some attribute the inefficiency to the principle of religion, and some to the authorities of the Islamic government. Figures like the late Imam Khomeini (r.a.) and the late Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani believed that religion has the ability to govern society, and with a such view, the late Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani entered the government and the Guardian Council. The late Imam Khomeini (r.a.) also believed that religion is efficient. In the era of postmodernity, we can manage society based on the efficiency of religion.”

“Religion is efficient, and the basis of its efficiency is found in the works and speech of Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani. Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani strongly believed in the principle of Islam in the Islamic Republic, and he also believed in the efficiency of the Islamic Republic with the Fiqh of AhlulBayt (a.s.),” added the Secretary General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

At the end of his speech, he said that according to the cases in the correspondence of the Guardian Council, the late Imam Khomeini (r.a.) accepted the arguments of Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani. “For example, the late Imam Khomeini (r.a.) suggested that the intelligence agency be managed under the supervision of a religious leader. But Ayatollah Golpaygani clearly disagreed because this is against the law. He argued that the Intelligence and Security Organization of the country may face emergency conditions and innocence may be oppressed. If it happened, it would be attributed to the leader and his position would be damaged. Therefore, after reading the arguments of Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani, the late Imam Khomeini (r.a.) accepted his opinion,” Ayatollah Ramazani concluded. /345/
