During his visit to Iraq, Ayatollah Reza Ramazani, Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, met Hojat al-Islam Gholamreza Abazari, Cultural attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq.

In this meeting, emphasizing the need to nurture elites in universities, Ayatollah Ramazani stated, “The AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly is on the path of its evolutionary progress. International University of AhlulBayt (a.s.) is also on the path of progress and development in terms of hardware, faculty and fields of study.”

“Qom and Najaf seminaries complement each other. Previously, the seminary in Najaf had a strong comprehensiveness, and we hope it will return to its golden age,” said the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

In this meeting, presenting a report on the activities of the Cultural Consultation and the House of Culture of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq, Hojat al-Islam Abazari said, “One of the important issues in the relations between Iran and Iraq is the scientific and academic relationship between the two countries. Iran has the capacity to admit about 20,000 Iraqi students. However, at the beginning of the cultural consultancy in Iraq, only 23 Iraqi students were studying in Iran. But there are currently more than 7,000 Iraqi students in Iran.”

“During Saddam’s Ba’athist regime, Shiites were not allowed to improve their education. Many Iraqi Shiites were arrested, imprisoned, deported or executed,” he said, referring to the plight of Shiites during Saddam’s rule.
