In a message on the occasion of Imam Hussain’s (a.s.) Arbaeen, Hojat al-Islam Sayed Sajid Ali Naqvi, head of the Shiite Ulema Council of Pakistan, stated, “The essence of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and the martyrs of Karbala, and their objectives are universal. Elevating the religion of Islam, securing, and restoring human dignity and human rights, is owed to the great struggles and sacrifices of that Imam.”
“Not only millions of Muslims around the world, but also followers of other religions, with great devotion and respect, commemorate the great sacrifice of that Imam and his honorable companions. As in previous years, millions of devotees from all over the world, regardless of their religion, gathered in Karbala and paid their tribute to the great status of the grandson of the Prophet and the martyrs of Karbala. The character of Imam Hussain (a.s.) is beyond class differences and divisions, and he is a role model for all human beings. That’s why that mankind in the last fourteen centuries considers the company of this high-ranking Imam as a source of honor and guidance, and follows his path regardless of religion, school of thought, region and country,” he said.
“Mourning sessions and gatherings are a means to promote the thought of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and are not against any religion or school of thought. At the same time, it is part of the constitutional, legal and civil rights of the people of Pakistan. Therefore, it is illegal to restrict or prevent it. Governments are obliged not to limit the freedom and rights of their citizens, but to protect it. The government and law enforcement bodies must perform their duties honestly in relation to sessions, Mowkebs and marches in different areas,” expressed the head of the Shiite Ulema Council of Pakistan.
Referring to the Holy Quran, Hojat al-Islam Sayed Sajid Naqvi emphasized, “According to the Quranic verses, the Muslims are united brothers and Ummah. Therefore, respecting the emotions of the followers of all schools of thought, brotherhood, mutual respect and tolerance must be maintained. Also, with greater awareness and familiarity with the movement of Imam Hussain (a.s.), people must advance unity and empathy and support the oppressed and condemn the oppressors.”
