The Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly stated, “Self-knowledge during youth is essential, and in this period, we must come to know who we are, what we must do, and where we are headed. When a person loses something, he posts a notice and goes in search of it. Yet according to Hadiths, the most important thing a human can lose is his own self.”
A group of female students from the University of Gilan visited the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly and met with Ayatollah Reza Ramazani, Secretary-General of the Assembly and representative of the people of Gilan Province in the Assembly of Leadership Experts.
In this meeting, the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, referring to the vast scope of this international organization’s activities, stated, “The AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly is connected with over 130 countries and the majority of their Shiite populations, and it operates in the international arena. Among the institutions affiliated with the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly are the ABNA News Agency, WikiShia Encyclopedia, and the AhlulBayt (a.s.) University.”
Addressing the young students present at the gathering, the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly emphasized, “You are young, and this is the time to discover yourselves and choose the right path in life. One must live in such a manner that at the end of one’s life, one is pleased with the path one has chosen. In the time of youth, a person should, with sincerity, selflessness, and integrity, choose a path that leads to true growth and perfection.”
Emphasizing the importance of self-knowledge in religious texts, he stated, “It is reported in a Hadith that the best form of knowledge is a person’s knowledge of oneself. Guarding the tongue, the eyes, and one’s actions lays the groundwork for spirituality. There is spirituality in the West as well, but the spirituality emphasized in the school of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) is spirituality accompanied by responsibility. In Europe and America, there exist four thousand spiritual movements, yet these spiritualities are not of the responsible kind. In Islam, when you establish prayer, this prayer imposes responsibilities upon you.”
The Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly continued, “Why do we follow Imam Mahdi (a.s.)? Because his existence is affirmed in our religious sources and forms a part of our creed. Following Imam Mahdi (a.s.) is a form of spirituality that brings with it responsibilities, such as helping others and supporting the people.”
Ayatollah Ramazani then referred to the role of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) in spiritual life and said, “One who is devoted to Imam Mahdi (a.s.) hath duties arising from this love: recognition, affection, and obedience. Whosoever assisteth others shall also receive the favor of the Imam.”
He enumerated the three main duties of the true awaiters of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) as follows: “First, self-purification and self-awareness; second, reforming others and aiding those in need; and third, preparing the grounds for the Reappearance. Groups active in the field of Mahdism must devise strategies for these goals. A group that bears the name of Mahdism must labor to pave the way for the Reappearance of Imam Mahdi (a.s.) and possess a strategic plan to attain this objective. The Holy Prophet (p.b.u.h) said to Imam Ali (a.s.), ‘O Ali! If God Almighty guides a single person through thee, it is better for thee than all upon which the sun rises and sets’.”
In conclusion, Ayatollah Ramazani stressed, “The stronger the connection with Imam Mahdi (a.s.) becomes, the greater shall be the individual’s spiritual and social security.”
The Ahl al-Bayt World Assembly is an international non-governmental organization (INGO) that was established by a group of Shiite elites under the supervision of the great Islamic authority of the Shiites in 1990 to identify, organize, educate and support the followers of Ahl al-Bayt.
