Women are most suffered by acts of terrorism: Adeleh Mashhadi

On Monday, May 17, 2021, a scientific meeting entitled “Study of the legal aspects of the terrorist attack on the Sayed Al-Shuhada (a.s.) school, west of Kabul” was held by the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, in the conference hall of the Assembly in Qom.

At the beginning of the meeting, referring to Islamophobia in the world, Adeleh Mashhadi, a senior expert in private law, said, “Now, we see that wherever there is talk of terrorism in the world, the name of Muslims comes to the minds of the people. There are different definitions of terrorism. Some idealistic groups believe that terrorism is a complication that needs to be treated. But realist groups see terrorism as the beginning of a war.”

“According to the Strasbourg Convention, any act using bombs, mines or other devices with the intent to intimidate or disrupt public order and destroy public property is terrorism,” She continued.

“The people of Afghanistan are exposed to terrorism, and women are most suffered by terrorist acts, and if men are martyred in terrorist incidents, the responsibility of family will be on women,” added the senior expert of private law.

“After the 9/11 terrorist attack, the United Nations sought to allow countries to legitimately defend themselves against terrorism by enacting a set of rules. In this regard, the international community thought only of armed struggle and did not pay attention to the consequences of these terrorist acts,” said Mashhadi, referring to the fight against terrorism in the world.

“Due to their characteristics, women suffer the most in terrorist acts, and it is easier and less expensive for terrorist groups to use women than men. After occupying an area, takfiri groups enslave women and violate their rights,” she continued.

“There are violations of women’s rights in Afghanistan, and violence against women is taking place in the country. Takfiris use women in some terrorist attacks, such as suicide bombings.” concluded the senior expert of private law.
