ABWA Official Website – On the 100th anniversary of the demolition of the shrine of the Imams (a.s.) in the Al-Baqi Anniversary, a commemoration ceremony was held with the presence of the Ayatollah Ramazani, Secretary General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, in the prayer hall of the Assembly in Tehran.
While referring to the demolition of the graves of Imams (a.s.) in Al-Baqi Cemetery, Hojat al-Islam Dr. Hassan Qazavi, the speaker of the ceremony, stated, “The demolition of the graves of the Infallible Imams (a.s.) in the Al-Baqi Cemetery is a bitter tragedy in the Islamic world, and it rooted in the thoughts and beliefs of Wahhabism.”
“Abd al-Wahhab, the father of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, was against the thoughts of his son, who was influenced by the thoughts of Ibn Taymiyyah. Therefore, until his father’s death, Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab did not dare to express his thoughts. Sulaiman, the brother of Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab, was also among the staunch opponents of his brother after the death of their father, and he wrote a book called “الصواعق الإلهية في الرد على الوهابية” (Al-Sawa'iq Al-Ilahiya fi Al-Rad Ala Al-Wahhabiya: Divine Thunderbolts in Rejection of the Wahhabi Thoughts) in refutation of his brother’s thoughts,” he further said.
“The order to demolish the graves of AhlulBayt (a.s.) in Al-Baqi Cemetery was issued under the influence of Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab’s thoughts,” the head of the Faculty of Ma’aref and Islamic Thought of Tehran University added, “While these thoughts are objected to by all Sunni schools of thought.”
“The AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly, which has a network and connection with the world, needs to use the capacity of communication with the freemen and free thinkers of the world for the development of Al-Baqi Cemetery, and it must create a wave in the world so that, God willing, the abandoned cemetery of Al-Baqi will be restored,” he mentioned.
Also, in this ceremony, the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly was appreciated for its measures and media productions to commemorate the anniversary of the demolition of the graves of the Imams (a.s.) in Al-Baqi Cemetery.
It is worth mentioning that after the siege of Medina in 1344 AH, the Wahhabis demolished the Al-Baqi Cemetery and its shrines, including the shrines of Imam Hassan (a.s.), Imam Sajjad (a.s.), Imam Baqer (a.s.), and Imam Sadeq (a.s.).
