Ayatollah Arafi: Nigerian government must release Sheikh Zakzaky / Islamic movements shine in Africa

The director of the seminaries gave a virtual speech on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the fifth anniversary of Zaria's oppressed martyrs.

Referring to the Islamic awakening in the world, Ayatollah "Alireza Arafi" said that Islamic awakening has emerged in recent decades in different regions. Muslims returned to their faith after being colonized for centuries, and this return to spiritual life and the desire to build a civilization in various Islamic countries emerged.

"In Africa, we have witnessed the rise of Islamic movements over the decades, and small and large movements have emerged on the continent to liberate Africa," he continued.

The head of seminaries added that issue of Islamic awakening is a natural process that boiled from the heart of the ummah. This awakening in Iran became a revolution and a transformative discourse, and its radius was reflected in the world. The spread of the idea of the Islamic Revolution in the world led to the formation of the Islamic Awakening and the axis of Islamic resistance.

"Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and his followers are a genuine and healthy movement, far from extremist deviant ideas. It was appropriate for the Nigerian government not to succumb to pressure and to use the faith of the Nigerian Islamic Movement against extremist movements. We hope that Nigerian government release Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and pave the way for the advancement of the spiritual and moral work of the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria," he added.

It is worth mentioning that on December 13, 2015 when Shiites were mourning Imam Hussain (a.s.) in a Husseiniyah in the city of Zaria in Nigeria, the country's military forces with a previous plan to destroy Shiite Islam in Nigeria raided to the Husseiniyah of Zaria and home of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria and killed more than a thousand Shiites and a number of members of the family of Sheikh Zakzaky and severely injured the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria and his wife and they were taken to prison.
