On Thursday morning, November 3, 2022, the opening ceremony of the international conference “Tradition and Era of Imam Hassan Askari (Ibn al-Reza)” was held in collaboration with the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly with the presence of ulama and scholars at the Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy in Pardisan, Qom.
In his speech, while expressing appreciation and gratitude to the institutions and dignitaries who cooperated in holding this conference, Hojat al-Islam Hamidreza Motahari, the head of the Research Institute “History and Biography of AhlulBayt (a.s.)” of the “Islamic Sciences and Culture Academy”, stated, “Since the beginning of the call, more than 110 articles have been submitted to the conference secretariat, of which 52 have been accepted.”
“The abstract of the articles will be presented in the conference of Ibn al-Reza. In this regard, more than 15 promotional meetings and two conferences were held in different scientific centers. The abstract of the articles submitted in the three conferences of Ibn al-Reza will be published in Arabic,” he clarified.
In the continuation of the opening ceremony, the collection of articles and abstracts of the articles, which have been published in the form of a book, were unveiled in the presence of Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri, head of the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom.
In brief words, Ayatollah Hosseini Bushehri said, “I hope that in addition to conferences about Imams Ibn al-Reza (Imams who are the sons of Imam Reza), conferences regarding the tradition and era of other Shiite Imams will be held.”
Stating that among the Infallible Imams (a.s.), Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.) has been neglected, Hojat al-Islam Dr. Rafiei, another speaker at the opening ceremony of the Ibn al-Reza conference, said, “Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.) faced many crises in the city of Samarra. He had little contact with the Shiites (due to the pressures of the Abbasid government), and the Shiites could not travel to Samarra either.”
In describing the characteristics of the era of Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.), he said, “He was the last imam present among the people and had the shortest time of Imamate - six years. He is the father of Imam Mahdi (a.s.), and the governments were very watchful to him. During the era of Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.), Shia expanded geographically, and the Abbasid government weakened.”
“Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.) was confined in Samarra by Abbasids and many uprisings took place during his time. At that time, the intellectual crises of Ghulat, Waqefiyyah and Sufiyyah occurred. On the other hand, poverty and bad economic conditions prevailed,” Dr. Rafiei added.
Referring to some hadiths from Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.) about the preparations of the Shiites for the Occultation of Imam Mahdi (a.s.), he said, “The 11th Imam of the Shiites fought against deviant ideas with his enlightenment during the crises of Saheb al-Zanj, Sufiyyah and Waqefiyyah. Studying the expectations of Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.) from the Shiites is one of the practical matters that should be taken into consideration. “
